The Butterfly Phase 3 Phonics Game is an interactive and engaging activity designed to help children practice identifying and understanding digraphs and trigraphs. In this game, there are 20 butterfly bodies and 80 wings. Each wing contains a word that includes a specific digraph or trigraph. For example, words like “shop,” “ship,” or “chop” might be included, representing the “sh,” “ch,” and “th” digraphs. The objective of the game is for children to match the wings to the corresponding butterfly bodies. Each butterfly body needs 4 wings, and all 4 wings must contain the same digraph or trigraph. This encourages children to not only recognize the digraphs and trigraphs but also to distinguish between them and match them accordingly. The game can be set up on a tuff tray. The butterflies and wings can be arranged on the tray, and children can take turns selecting wings and trying to match them to the correct butterfly bodies.
